Case study – Clinical trial experience
REDUCING FATIGUE ASSOCIATED WITH TRAVEL TO A TRIAL SITE
A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THE LIVED EXPERIENCE
Fatigue is a significant part of living with an autoimmune condition. In-depth interviews allowed the trial teams to understand how their protocol would cause this and result in a burdensome experience for patients.
ENSURING FATIGUE CAUSED BY THE PROTOCOL ISN’T A CONFOUNDING FACTOR
The sponsor wanted to be sure that they were measuring a patient’s fatigue caused by the disease as opposed to the fatigue caused by the trial.
THE SOLUTION IS TO EASE THE
BURDEN ON TRIAL PARTICIPANTS
Funding for concierge services, and potentially hotel accommodation for those travelling longer distances should be provided to ensure that fatigue as a result of travel didn’t act as a confounding factor in PRO collection.
